A quirky performance experiment in Clonakilty

'Come Wander With Me' is the first edition of a new model of performance experiment which aims to bring together artists of all disciplines and to create a completely new experience for the people of Clonakilty.

From Sep 26th to 27th, This event will turn the whole town into a performance space:The performances will be happening in eight unusual locations around the town, from your grandmother's sitting room to your local dreary car park. The audience will be split into eight groups which will simultaneously rotate between the performance venues. Each artist will therefore face the physical challenge of performing eight times in a row and the artistic challenge of adding little changes each time. Different audience groups will have different and unique experiences and have an incentive to talk to each other about what they have seen.

The event is curated by Darragh McLoughlin and Elena Kreusch, artistic directors of Timoleague(ish) based performing arts company 'Squarehead Productions'. Over the past 2 years they have created live performances and artistic projects in more than fifteen European countries and are now ready to bring their practice and experience back to West Cork.

Following an open call for projects nine promising artistic proposals have been chosen across the country. During the 10 days leading up to the public event, the artists will create their site specific performances, mentored by a team, that will push them to rethink their relationship to an audience and to experiment with their art in a site-specific context.

By showcasing incredible, touching, weird, skillful, political, willful, swillfull performances in unexpected corners and locations, 'Come Wander With Me' adds yet another number to Clon's long and ever growing list of quirky happenings, challenge the participants' perception of the town and shed light on spaces long forgotten.

This edition functions as a pilot project and might give rise to a series of follow up projects in different towns in the West Cork area, establishing ‘Come Wander With Me’ as a reoccurring, nomadic event.
